With the objective to expand tourist content in Albania and Kosovo, from 27 to 28 July, Wikimedians Group of Albanian Language will host an editing marathon on Wikivoyage.
Every article created during this event will be translated in other languages where most of the tourists come from. Most of the contributions are going to get English, German and Italian translation without excluding other languages too.
Wikivoyage is a free web-based travel guide for travel destinations and travel topics written by volunteer authors. It is a sister project of Wikipedia and supported and hosted by the same non-profit Wikimedia Foundation. Wikivoyage has been called the “Wikipedia of travel guides”.
The project began when editors at the German and then Italian versions of Wikitravel decided in September 2006 to move their editing activities and then current content to a new site.
The site was live on December 10th 2006. It numbers more than 104 thousands articles written on 21 different languages.
Wikivoyage editing marathon will take place on 27-28 July from 10:00 to 17:00 at the innovative center and multifunctional laboratory ICTSlab.
Basic knowledge on Wiki will be required in order to participate on this event. Every month the number of articles written on Wikivoyage expands with 1% and enjoys a stable number of 300 active users and 800 monthly editors.
ICTSlab has and will always offer its unconditional support for such events. With the help of technology, ICTSlab is committed in supporting Albanian ICT community in particular and Albanians in general hoping to provide our youth and society a clear guide towards some of the latest global ICT trends.
